Bonizio, Sangiovese di Maremma 2007

Dark cherry flavors are held in check by sticky tannins in this substantial red. For a meat lover's pizza. Extreme Values. Best Buy.

Wine & Spirits - April, 2009

Ripe fruit aromas of black cherry, raisin and anise with less ripe flavors and green herbs on the palate; medium-bodies with a tangy black cherry and herb finish.

Sante - May, 2009

Deep garnet/violet color and appeaking aroma of clove and anise; juicy and pleasant on the palate with notes of ripe berries and dark chocolate. Quite nice. Bargain Buzz.

Bonizio, Sangiovese di Maremma 2005

This easy drinking Tuscan red must surely be the bargain of the month! Bursting with sweet cherry and spice flavours, nicely balanced with a soft fruity finish, Bonizio punches well above its modest price point and is well worth the effort to find. Very highly recommended for everyday quaffing.

Larry Arnold - EAT MAGAZINE (BC) - August, 2007

Delicious Sangiovese and an excellent value. It is supple, full, quite ripe and fruity in character, and long on the finish, tasting of baked cherry, red currant, plum, and pepper. * * * * + (Excellent – Highly recommended)

Ronn Weigand - Restaurant Wine # 117 - June, 2007

This is a lighter-style red wine that shows the spicy/peppery personality of the Sangiovese grape. There's a strong herbal (suggesting fennel seed) element here mingling with tart red fruit and earthy notes. This unassuming wine was built with the dinner table in mind. It would pair nicely with a variety of grilled meats from the barbecue. Don't be afraid to chill this down slightly before serving during the summer months.

Wine of the Week

Daily Press (Timmins, ON) - May, 2007

" Really nice cherry-plum fruit, a little spicy; great with anything off the grill." * * * * 1/2 (Fine – Outstanding)

Michael Lonsford - The Houston Chronicle - March, 2007

"A classic Sangiovese from Tuscany with superb fruit, great balance, and a light, not inconsequential finish. An excellent every-day Chianti look-alike, and a wine with the intensity of Maremma, its home." "Bargain of the Week"

Dan Berger - Dan Berger's Vintage Experiences - March, 2007

88 Points-  Energetic and charming Maremma-grown Sangiovese; lively black raspberry fruit and racy acidity.

Patterson’s The Tasting Panel - March, 2008

Made by a well regarded Tuscan producer named Cecchi. Beautiful aroma of sweet, ripe fruit, tinged with a subtle earthiness. Medium body, complex flavors, smooth finish, perfectly proportioned to pair with all sorts of pasta and meat dishes.

T.J.Foderaro - The Star-Ledger - February, 2008

…some red wines are dark, dense, powerful and brooding …this wine is the exact opposite of brooding. It's full of pleasant dried-cherry and spice flavors, its light-to-medium texture dances on the tongue and its not as ponderous as the Chiantis that are made from the same grape and come from the same region. And it comes with an amiable price tag…”

Wow, what an enjoyable Italian wine from a respected producer. Made mostly of Sangiovese, this excellent value has floral aromas and intense cherry flavors with an earthy, mushroom undertone. There aren't any noticeable tannins in this wine to distract from its soft, generous fruit. Great with barbecued foods and pasta.
